Most emergencies can be handled over the phone, but some require an office visit.
The best way to avoid an emergency visit is to follow the rules for eating, keep your teeth brushed and flossed properly, and see your dentist for routine exams and cleanings. Other safe practices are to avoid chewing on pens, pencils, or other objects. It’s also a good idea to keep your lips closed when putting on or taking off over-the-head clothing.
If you feel that a wire is protruding and causing discomfort, you can try to tuck it in with a clean pencil eraser or cover it with the dental wax from your kit. If that is not effective, you may try to clip the wire yourself but it is best to call us to avoid injuring yourself.
If something that should be glued to your teeth comes off, call us to schedule a repair visit as soon as possible. We can assess whether it can wait or needs attention sooner.
If you have a Herbst appliance, you have been given the proper wrench to tighten the screw holding your appliance in place. However, if one of your crowns is loose, call us.
If words fail you, in this digital age, you can always take a photo and send it to our email: go@greeleyortho.com with a message indicating you need guidance or call us: 484-346-6008.
While losing your retainer is not technically an “emergency”, you should still call us to schedule an appointment to replace it. This also applies to bonded retainers behind your teeth that need attention.
Protecting Your Braces During Sports
If you participate in contact sports you will want to wear a mouth guard over your braces. We can provide one for you but you can also purchase a mouth guard for braces from a sporting goods store. Please avoid using a custom mouth guard that inhibits your tooth movement.
