Who Is A Candidate For Invisalign?

Posted on 8/8/2022 by Evan
Who Is A Candidate For Invisalign? If you want a straighter smile but do not want people to know you are wearing braces, then Invisalign may help you get the job done.

Invisalign is an innovative dental treatment that can be an effective alternative to traditional metal braces. The treatment involves wearing a series of clear removable plastic aligners which can straighten slightly misaligned teeth over time.

Let us take a look at who can be good candidates for Invisalign treatment.

What Can Invisalign Fix?

Invisalign is a good orthodontic option for a variety of misalignment issues. However, these aligners cannot fix moderate to severe or complicated issues. Invisalign can offer correction for:
•  Slightly misaligned teeth.
•  Mild overbites, underbites, or crossbites.
•  Slight overcrowding.
•  Small gaps between teeth.
•  Overlapping teeth.

Who Is A Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Fortunately, a large number of people who require a straighter smile can be a good candidate for Invisalign. These include:
•  People who do not have complicated or extensive orthodontic issues.
•  People who are willing to wear the aligners for the required amount of time and can follow the guidelines of the treatment.
•  Older teens whose jaw has matured and who are more responsible.
•  People who want to straighten their teeth discretely.
•  People who want removable orthodontic devices that make it easy to clean their teeth.
•  People who have had braces in their youth but have suffered a mild relapse.

Who Is Not A Good Candidate for Invisalign?

For some people, Invisalign treatment may not be the right treatment:
•  People who have severe misalignment and crossbite issues that require more extensive forms of orthodontic treatment.
•  People who smoke and are unable to quit while they are undergoing the Invisalign treatment. Nicotine and tar from the cigarette smoke will stain the aligners turning them an unattractive tan color.
•  People who cannot commit to wearing aligners for up to 22 hours every day.
•  People who have cavities and gum disease should get them treated before getting Invisalign treatment.
•  Young children whose jaws have not yet matured and who are not very responsible.
•  People with dental implants may not be able to get this treatment, depending on the position of the implant.
•  People who have jaw pain or TMJ disorders.

Misalignment and bite issues may be caused by aggressive thumb sucking, oral disease, dental trauma, or simply genetics. Crooked teeth not just ruin the esthetics of your smile, they also cause oral health issues as people may not be able to effectively clean their teeth.
