Is There a Distinct Age to Have Your Kids Get Braces?

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Evan Admin
Is There a Distinct Age to Have Your Kids Get Braces?Your kid may have crooked teeth, malocclusion, overcrowded mouth, or protruding teeth. If that is the case, chances are they will need braces to improve their smile and promote their oral health. Many parents will ask when is the right time to get their kids to an orthodontist for braces. So is there an exact age for kids to get braces? Well, the truth is, there is no set-in-stone age for braces. In fact, your kid should see our orthodontists before they get braces. It will help develop an appropriate and effective plan to prevent future issues.

What is an Ideal Age for Braces?

You will realize that every child is unique, meaning each mouth of a child develops in its own unique way. Different changes occur during childhood including the teeth, mouth, and jaws. You may begin to notice issues with the bite alignment of the child as you observe them grow. Often, by the time a child is seven years old, a majority of orthodontic problems become apparent. These are issues like underbite, overbite, crooked teeth, uneven bite, overcrowding, and protruding teeth. Immediately you notice any concerns with the jaw, mouth, or teeth of your kid, schedule an initial orthodontic evaluation with our team.

Initial Evaluation not Necessarily Treatment Time

Early appointment may not mean that your child will begin orthodontic treatment right away, however, it can help prevent dental issues later on. Our orthodontist will identify potential growth concerns and create a treatment plan. The orthodontist will advise you on the right time your kid should get braces.

Most orthodontists agree that the ideal age for children to have braces is between 8 and 14 years. During this time, the mouth, jaw, and teeth are most responsive to straightening and the child has all of their permanent teeth erupted, which is an important factor that determines the timing of braces. Schedule your kid's first orthodontic assessment with our team today and start the journey to having a healthy, functional, and beautiful smile.
