How Old Should Kids Be When They First Come to See Us?

How Old Should Kids Be When They First Come to See Us?Braces and aligner straightening are two methods to straighten teeth, with one utilizing the traditional metal brackets with wires and the other utilizing a series of alignment trays. There are several problems that can lead to your child needing braces, so keep reading to learn about when you should bring them in for an appointment.

Indicators of the Need for Braces

While children usually get braces between the ages of 8-14, due to the fact that this is usually when they have lost all of their baby teeth, it is recommended that your child comes to see us for an examination no latter than the age of 7. The following symptoms are good indications that your child has orthodontic problems and will benefit from braces: trouble biting and chewing, teeth grinding and clenching, protruding teeth, asymmetric face, mouth breathing, crowded and incorrect teeth locations, jaw sounds, cheek biting, and teeth that are abnormally separated. This is not a comprehensive list, and so it is still an excellent idea to consult our team even if your child does not have these symptoms.

In general, the more severe the misalignment and other issues mentioned above, the earlier you should come in to see us. The possibility of guiding baby teeth without braces, and then switching to braces when they lose their baby teeth is another reason why it can be advantageous to have your child see us as early as possible; this usually reduces the time that your child has to wear braces, and can lead to a less painful experience as the amount of shifting that the teeth have to undergo is minimized. Please call us to schedule an appointment with us, we look forward to providing your child with care that they need to have a perfect smile.
