Early Orthodontic Care Can Help You Avoid Costly Dental TreatmentsDental care can be pretty expensive; however, early orthodontic evaluation and treatment can save you dollars down the line. When you take early orthodontic care seriously, it makes orthodontic health more manageable. You shouldn't allow your kid to skip a pediatric check-up or an early trip to the orthodontist.

What is Early Orthodontics?

The American Association of Orthodontists defines early orthodontic treatment as the treatment offered while the primary teeth are still present in a child's mouth. This treatment is also referred to as interceptive treatment. From conception to early adulthood, kids are constantly growing, and the growth of their mouth and jaw is no exception. AAO says that a kid needs to see a dentist for orthodontic treatment by age seven or when an oral problem is recognized. By the age of 7, most of the kid's permanent teeth have come in.

An early orthodontic visit involves several things. A dentist evaluates the developing teeth and jaw of a kid and provides information about how the kid's mouth will develop over time. A kid may be on track to achieve a near-perfect dental development or need treatment after that. If orthodontic treatment is required, periodic follow-ups are necessary to assess how the jaw and face grow. Another diagnosis during the early visit is that a kid may have signs of orthodontic problems that need treatment soon.

Why Early Orthodontics Exists

Early orthodontic is recommended to intercept a developing orthodontic problem and work to eradicate the cause. The orthodontic specialist helps guide a child's facial and jawbone growth and provides sufficient room for the expected permanent teeth. Common checked conditions include; very crowded teeth, underbites, crossbites, teeth that meet abnormally, extra or missing teeth, and finger, thumb, or pacifier habits that could affect the growth of the kid's teeth and jaw. As a parent, you should be concerned about your child's oral health. Schedule an early orthodontic visit with our team today.
